|The weekend will start on Friday when you book in and we can enjoy an evening meal together. The weekend finishes on Sunday after tea.
The cost is £220 per person and includes accommodation, meals and the materials for the workshops.
Our theme is the waterways of the Cherwell Valley - the River Cherwell and the Oxford Canal both pass through Banbury.
For our workshops we have a spacious, light and airy room which faces west to let the sunshine in. Our workshops are being developed to link in with the environment and history of the two waterways. There is much to inspire us from dragon flies to horse drawn narrow boats, and there will be the chance to make a mat from English rush which could become the backdrop for a piece of straw work too.
Smaller self-led activities will be available and we will have the traditional favour exchange - can you create a favour with a waterways theme?
On the Saturday evening Ted Beeson will give a talk about Straw and its uses at Chiltern Open Air Museum with its working Victorian farm growing, harvesting and thrashing rye using tools and machinery of the time. There are thatched buildings, the cottage of a family of straw plait makers, and much more.
|The venue is the Banbury House Hotel . There are directions to the hotel, which is very close to the centre of Banbury, on the hotel web site.|
How to get to there
|The Banbury House Hotel directions has all the details you need to get to the Conference.|
|There may be the chance to stay longer if the hotel has availability and there is much to see in the area.
Banbury itself has many historic buildings and the Banbury Cross, which can all be viewed along the Town Trail. There is the local museum and the canal to explore too. The surrounding area also has much to offer, including - Broughton Castle, NT Upton House and NT Canons Ashby, Compton Verney Art Gallery and Sulgrave Manor.
We hope that you will be able to spend the whole weekend at the Strawfest but we understand that this may not be possible. If you can only spare a day get in touch with us and we will see what arrangements we can make.
